Our Programs
STEM Salem is an out-of-school-time program designed to expand access to high-quality STEM learning for children and families in the City of Salem. We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—and to discover the possibilities that STEM can offer.
Through engaging, hands-on experiences, STEM Salem makes learning fun, accessible, and relevant. Participants have opportunities to explore STEM concepts, connect with local STEM organizations and professionals, and experience STEM-rich institutions and environments that may otherwise be out of reach. Our programming is designed to encourage curiosity, build confidence, and help young people see themselves as future innovators, problem-solvers, and STEM professionals.
STEM Salem is about more than activities. It is about creating access and opening doors. By bringing affordable, community-connected STEM experiences to Salem families, we are helping address gaps in STEM exposure and opportunity while planting seeds of curiosity, imagination, and possibility for the next generation.
STEM Sunday
STEM Sunday brings K–12 students and their families together for engaging, hands-on STEM experiences in community spaces throughout Salem. Each month, a small group of 15–20 students and their families is invited to explore a new STEM theme alongside college students and STEM professionals who volunteer their time and expertise.
For two hours, an ordinary room becomes a hands-on laboratory. Students experiment, investigate, build, and discover through activities designed to connect STEM concepts to their culture, community, and environment. Each session offers a new opportunity to ask questions, explore ideas, and learn by doing.
STEM Sunday is an opportunity for children and families to experience STEM in an engaging and accessible way while meeting people who use STEM skills in the real world. STEM Sunday gives young people a place to ask “What if?”, test their ideas, and discover that STEM is not just something they learn—it is something they can use to understand and shape the world around them.
STEM Club
As part of an existing after-school program, STEM Salem’s STEM Club meets weekly to give students new ways to experience science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through engaging activities and hands-on exploration, students investigate how STEM concepts connect to the world around them.
Each session encourages students to ask questions, try new approaches, solve problems, and learn through discovery. From exploring science and experimenting with technology to taking on engineering challenges and finding the fun in mathematics, STEM Club makes STEM learning an experience students can enjoy and apply beyond the classroom.
